BEHIND THE MUSIC
Darryl Carter Jr. over at Elite Muzik had a chance to ask Jazzo a few questions.
Get inside her mind below.
How would you define your sound?
"Oh boy... Well, it is definitely along the RnB lines with hints of electronic and alternative tones. My voice is airy, hollow, light... I tend to make slower tunes and languid melodies. Listening is really the best way to find out..."
How do you feel you stand out from other artists?
"I mean, who knows if I do. There are so many people on this planet. We are bound to have similarities and we are bound to have differences. All I can do is present the most genuine version of myself. Meanwhile others try to be.. and want to be.. and aim to be recreations of personalities that have already existed. I won't be the only sincere upcoming artist, but weeding out the real from the fake is the first step. And I am real."
What artist(s) inspired you?
"I try not to listen to anyone else whilst creating just to avoid emulation and influence. Experience. Adversity. Observation. Those things inspire me. I've been told I have a unique way of transforming adversity and experience into masterpieces. I am my most vulnerable while creating. I have learned to use art as safe, therapeutic space. For the sake of answering your question though... Top 5: Erykah Badu, Sade, Lauryn Hill, Dido and Jill Scott."
What is the overall goal of your career?
"I really want to be able to wake up and create. I want to live off of my creations. I want to be able to record from home. The stress that comes from this mundane, routine, corporate lifestyle really stifles creativity. And my gut is in twists because I know I have potential to do so much more. I just need the time and resources. It doesn't have to be fame. I don't have to be extremely wealthy. But I want to quit my job, be self sustained and create words, movement and sounds forever."

I would like to personally thank any and every body and spirit I was able to share my gift with along the CYGNUS 2017 promotional tour. Every venue was a new experience and the welcoming energy I felt from audience members was the most reassuring thing. It is something that I could never expect, recreate and nothing compares to it. Please be on the lookout for my upcoming shows.
WORDS. MOVEMENT. SOUNDS.
This Massachusetts born, Maryland raised lady was exposed to the arts at a very young age. She was surrounded by a family of creatives. She wrote her first mixtape at twelve years old using a karaoke machine and cassette dubbing. The music showed great promise of competent songwriting skill and the resourcefulness foreshadowed her genius. She delved into various artistic forms thereafter including acting and dance. The skill set continued: music and video production, crafts, poetry, marketing, choreography... Although told to choose one path, Jazzo was determined to merge her various skills into one career recording.
Over a year we witnessed exponential growth of the Jazzo brand. After becoming a ReverbNation CONNECT artist, Jazzo was able to land a few public relation opportunities. It began with an interview and feature from OAG Management's Music in the Spotlight Tour in January 2016 which turned into a distribution deal with Galactic Worldwide for her single "Nightmare on M Street". She began performing shortly thereafter with the band, Mixed Ancestry and completed over 30 superior shows in just short of a year. She pioneered an artist showcase in Baltimore entitled, "Jazzo Jams" which highlights the best underground talent in the DMV area. She was invited to SESAC as a writer and publisher and is now a RAW Artist. She won HITM Group's Unsigned Hype Artist Competition 2016 with her unique vocal looping and live production skills. She was recently nominated for two Baltimore Crown awards: Best New Artist, and Vocalist of the Year. She started 2017 with her promotional tour for Cygnus - EP which was a collaboration with CYGN, super producer from Lille, France. She is now self-managed, creating her own publishing company and label "Epiphable".
Her drive and imagination is unmatchable.
Jazzo has so much more to show you.
